Asa Branham Sisson, 93, of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was born on September 11, 1919 in Bluefield, WV to the late Asa and Katherine Sisson. Asa proudly worked for the American Red Cross for many years and was a founding member of the Lions Club in Clearbrook. He loved to play golf and enjoyed wood working. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Asa (Andy) Sisson; brother, Herbert Sisson; and sister, Roberta Beverly. Family left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Walthall Sisson; son, Fred Sisson and his wife Tina; daughters, Carol Eaton and Kathy Journell and her husband James; grandchildren, Christie, TR, James, Joseph, Jessi, Stephen, and Josh; and great-grandchildren, Iyran, Taylor, Josiah, Logan, and Isabell. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 27, 2013 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Jan Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
