Arthur Albert Moran Jr, 89, of Franklin County, Virginia went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2014.
Art was born on September 9, 1925 in Rocky Mount, Virginia to Albert Arthur Moran and Ruth Ada James Moran. Serving his country as a sergeant in the United States Army in the Italian Campaign during WWII (1946-48), he was a member of the 38th Infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star. He had an exceptional thirty-five year career as a radio broadcaster in Blackstone, South Boston and Buena Vista, Virginia and was owner and operator of WMEK in Chase City, Virginia. During his time in Chase City, he served as a member of the Town Council, deacon of First Baptist Church, three-term member of the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors, President of Lions Club and nine-year member of the Southside Regional Planning Commission. He was an active member of the Salem Baptist Church and served the church as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Violet Cannaday Moran; sister Edith Mae Moran; brother Leroy Moran; daughter Sharon Moran Vaughan; son James Kevin Moran; son-in-law Charles Vaughan; son-in-law Timothy Nixon; grandson David Vaughan and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
Family and friends will gather in remembrance at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Virginia between 6pm and 8pm on Friday, January 2, 2014.
