Arthur Daniel (Dan) Cole left this life to be with his beloved wife, Evelyn on December 11, 2012. He was born February 3, 1927 to Alfred and Pauline Stark Cole of Bristol, Va. He was predeceased by daughter Sarah Elizabeth, his sister Peggy Widner and brothers Jack, Bill ,and Clyde Cole. He was a long time resident of Roanoke.
Dan was a WWII Army veteran, serving with the occupational forces in Italy. He retired from the Trucking Industry, after driving for Hennis Freight Lines and Spector-Red Ball. He was a voracious reader, a Senior Champion bowler, a die-hard Democrat and all around good man. He was active for many years in the Food Pantry and clothing closet at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Roanoke. He was devoted to his wife, caring for her daily until her death in May.
He leaves his children, Lyndan (Chuck) Simpson, Art (Judy) Cole and Scot (Lee) Cole, seven grand children, four great grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and special Northwood Drive neighbors.
The family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation for the unbounded friendship, love, and care they gave both our parents and us.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 19th at 11:30 am at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Franklin Road followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
