April Dawn Martin

April Dawn Martin, 33 of Roanoke, formerly of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. She was born on January 20, 1979 in Roanoke to Ray Junior Martin and Dana Lynn Abell Dunbar. April will be remembered as a very loving mother to her son Jakar, as he was the apple of her eye. She enjoyed time spent with the children of Journey church as she worked with them often during church services. She was a very kind, loving, and giving young lady and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Junior Martin. Surviving family include her son, Jakar Maurice Nelson; mother, Dana Lynn Dunbar; brothers, Russell Gregory Dunbar and Ray Junior Martin, II; sister, Jennifer Martin, several uncles, aunts and cousins, as well as numerous special friends remain to cherish her memory. A memorial service to honor Aprils life will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice.
