Annis Minix Bowen, 90, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
She was born on September 19, 1935, to Alda Mae Minix and Joe Farrigan Minix in Coffee County, Georgia, and was raised by cousins, Bessie (Mother) and Raymond (Daddy) Davis in Douglas, Georgia. She was a graduate of Coffee County High School. Soon after, she was swept off her feet by William Alfred Perry (Spud). They were married and welcomed three girls, Jan, Jean, and Jo Ann. The young family moved slightly north to Macon, Georgia, where they made their home and raised the three girls.
Annis worked for Kroger for 35 years and ultimately retired. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed making her girls' clothes by hand. Annis was known for her strength and strong will. She was very involved in her church, Pine Forest Baptist, and loved singing in the choir.
After her marriage ended, she met and married Lucious Bowen in 1973. After several moves with his company, they settled and retired in Roanoke, Virginia. The two enjoyed 45 years of marriage before his death in 2018.
Annis was known as Nanny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all have wonderful memories of her and always knew she was there for them day or night unconditionally. She "cooked" the best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
She was predeceased by her parents, Alda Mae Minix and Joe Farrigan Minix; cousins, Bessie and Raymond Davis; husband, Lucious Bowen; two sisters, Ruth Johnson (Bob) and Mavis Reese (Vernon); her adoptive sister, Brenda Davis Morris (Larry); and her stepson, Phil Bowen (Karen).
She is survived by her brother, Randy Davis (Beth); daughters, Jean Tucker (Greg) and Jo Ann Perry (Tim); grandchildren, Wendy Razook (John) and Ryan Cooper; great-grandchildren, Dylan Razook and Leighton Cooper; stepsons, Greg Bowen (Pam) and Keith Bowen; very special son-in-law, Joe Robinson; a special cousin, Lucille Davis; nephew, Dr. R.V. Reese (Joy); and many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers who became family, Dolly Muse, Janie (Penny) Ollie, and Kym Cress. Special recognition to The Tucker Hospice House and staff for the wonderful, loving care of Annis in her final days.
A private family service will be held at her final resting place at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Tucker Hospice House in her memory located at 5003 Hospice Lane in Kannapolis, North Carolina 28081. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
