Andrew C. 'Chick' Taliaferro

Andrew C. Chick Taliaferro, 102, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013. At the time, he was the oldest person in Richfield Recovery Center. Mr. Taliaferro was born on September 18, 1910 in the Wauban community of Roanoke County to the late Silas Daniel Taliaferro and Ella Patterson Yeatman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Maihl Taliaferro; three sisters, Margaret Peggy Estelle Taliaferro, Clara Taliaferro and Ella Taliaferro, all of Salem; six brothers, Harry Taliaferro, Sidney Staples Taliaferro, Walter Taliaferro, Silas D. Jack Taliaferro, Jr., James Robert Bob Taliaferro, all of Salem, and Oscar Taliaferro of Eastland, Michigan. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Sample, age 97, of Salem; two sons, Curtis Wayne Taliaferro and his wife Frances, and George Andrew Andy Taliaferro, all of Salem; four grandchildren, Curtis Wayne Taliaferro, Jr. of Richmond, David Andrew Taliaferro of Birdsboro, PA, George Andrew Drew Taliaferro, II and Holly Marie Taliaferro of Salem; and five great-grandchildren Taylor Taliaferro, Megan Taliaferro, Katlyn Taliaferro, Payton Andrew Taliaferro and Stone Hamm. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of Taylor Lodge # 23 of the Masonic Order, the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge, AF & AM of Virginia for over 60 years, holding the honor of Grand Master. He was also a member of the Pipefitters Union. Services will be held at 2PM, Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Eric Evans, minister of Salem Church of Christ will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites beginning at 4PM.
