Andrea Gwyn "Doane" Cowling

Andrea Gwyn Doane Cowling, 57, of Salem, VA, formerly of Saltville, VA, slipped away to be with the Lord on Monday, February 15, 2021, at her home. Mama Cowling as she was so affectionately known, was born on Friday, April 12, 1963, to Albert L. Doane, Sr. and Joyce Vaughan Doane at Ft. Bragg, NC. She became a Registered Nurse, as it was evident that taking care of others was her calling. Andrea loved to craft, read books, and feed the deer that wandered into her yard. She had a deep affinity for the beach, as well as her mountains. When her youngest daughter joined the band, Andrea quickly took the role of Band Nurse at Salem High School. Andrea attended the Elliston Church of God. She was greeted in heaven by her brother, Albert Lee Doane, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Aleah Propst and husband, Matt and Olivia Cowling and life partner, Steven Nguyen; grandkids, Anthony Trovata, Jr., and Ava Trovata; she is also survived by niece, Danielle Whited and husband, Seth; and nephew, William Doane and life partner, Leah Boardwine; and her great nieces and nephew to who she was known as Gramma. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA, with Pastor Ronnie Duncan officiating. Friends may begin taking their seats after 12 pm after briefly visiting with the family. Those attending are required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
