Allie Frances Mowles Kesler, of Salem, born on April 21, 1912, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the age of 102. She was fiercely independent, an avid gardener, and a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. Preceding her in death was her husband, John Washington Kesler; son-in-law, Robert W. Charlton; grandson, Richard Allen Light; and granddaughter-in-law, Holly Kesler. Her surviving family includes her children, Carlton Lee Kesler and wife, Jean, Phyllis J. Charlton, and Loretta Ann Light and husband, Wiley; grandchildren, Reuben and Jason Kesler, Steve Charlton, Lisa Glass, Jonathan Charlton, Mary Shelor, Karen Harris, Katie Charlton, and Randy and Roger Light; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rachel Terry, and Viola Stamper; and brother, Kenneth Boot Mowles. A special thanks on behalf of the family goes out to the Friendship Manor 2 South staff for their wonderful care. A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will then take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Roger Counts will officiate.
