Alice Jean McGhee Sellew, age 91, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Park West Hospital. Alice was a strong, independent, and gracious woman who was devoted to her family, the First Baptist Concord, the Blue Grass Home Demonstration Club, the DAR, and the Huguenot Society. She was a longtime supporter of the Tennessee Republican Party. She was known for her wonderful singing voice, and for her superb flower arrangements which she donated over the past 50 years to various charitable events in Knoxville, most notably the annual Lincoln Day Dinner, for which she and her husband, Bill Sellew, always helped organize decorations. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, William Walton Sellew, Jr.; and by her daughter, Sally Sellew Trimmer. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Stone of Salt Lake City, UT; her grandson, Jared Stone of San Diego, California with his wife, Charity, and their children, Warren and Kenna; granddaughter, Karine Stone of Rochester, New York with her husband, Ron Kareken; siblings, Frances Ehlenfeldt of Salem, Virginia and Donald McGhee of Lynchburg, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service and burial will be held in Salem, Virginia at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, 2013 with visitation at 11 a.m. followed by a service at Noon. The Reverend John Chip Sellew of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Mebane, NC will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at the Little Creek Chapel on the grounds of Little Creek Sanitarium in Knoxville, Tennessee on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. with The Reverend Steve Peek of First Baptist Concord officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alice M. Sellew may be sent to First Baptist Concord at 11704 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, TN 37934 or to the Mission of Hope at P.O. Box 51824 in Knoxville, TN 37950. Alices family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at NHC and at Park West Hospital along with her many wonderful friends and neighbors in Farragut, the community of Little Creek, and members of the staff and congregation at First Baptist Concord for all of their support to Alice over many wonderful years in Tennessee. Especially since November of 2012, their friendship, fellowship, skills, dedication, and support were invaluable to her and increased her quality of life beyond what words can express during the last months of her life.
