Alice K. Hickson Morris, 77, of Roanoke County, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

She was the daughter of the late Claybourne Roger Hickson and Nannie Hickson Lawrence from Salem, Va. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Morris III; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Kirby; and her brothers, Russell Wayne Hickson and Claybourne Roger Hickson Jr.

In her lifetime, Alice was defined by her devotion to her family, friends, organization skills, creative arts and crafts, food, and fun. She loved spending time with her beloved husband, friends, and family, and dining out, or the dinner table was always a place of laughter and love. She spent her free time creating the most beautiful knitting arrangements and other arts and crafts. Alice was punctual, direct, yet loving and caring, and she had a strong sense of order.

Alice loved and cherished her beloved husband, James, for 46 years of marriage. She dedicated her life to him by doing everything she possibly could to take care of him and the household, even to his last breath 3 months ago. If anyone had a problem with James, it was a problem for her. They were best friends and protected each other from any family quarrels and disagreements, because they knew long ago that marriage was something sacred and not to be separated or divided. She shared many stories of how Dad would say the funniest things to make her laugh through all of life's circumstances; they were truly the embodiment of traditional marriage vows, which is unconditional love and respect, "to have and to hold, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, and till death do us part." Together, they looked forward to watching Pastor Jonathan's television worship service faithfully on Sunday mornings.

Alice was heartbroken when her husband passed away on January 15, 2026, and no one on earth could fill that void wholly, not even the family that she also loved very dearly. However, God filled that void when He stepped in and began to prepare a place for her in the heavenly house of God during the week of March 26, and faithfully embraced her eternally on April 1.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Clinton Morris Sr. and Donald Wayne Sowers, Jr.; stepdaughters, Kimberley Rice, Vonda (Aaron) Payne, and Oterra (Vannie) Parker; sister, Anna (Carl) Lambert; grandchildren, Clinton Morris Jr., Tre Monteleone, John Monteleone, Ryan Monteleone, William Richardson, Joshua (Karla) Morris, and Tiffany (William) Diggs; 5 great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends who will miss her immensely.

Alice would have wanted to thank Sonya Myers for being such a faithful and devoted friend, who was always willing to help her and James. Many thanks to Kimberley Rice for being a wonderful and loving daughter who traveled back and forth from Maryland to Roanoke over the years to care for her and Dad.

Additional beloved friends of the family to thank are Hanna St. Claire, Patrick Tackle, Don Artherhults, Donald and Tammy Campbell, Barbara Beaven, Ann Thorne, and Rick Hoosier.

The celebration of her life will take place on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel located at 305 Roanoke Boulevard in Salem, Va. The family will receive friends with a viewing beginning at 10 a.m. The funeral service will then begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Jonathan Falwell of Thomas Road Baptist church in Lynchburg, Va., will officiate. Interment will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens gravesite in Roanoke, Va.
