Albert Clinton Howard, 73, of Salem and formerly of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 31, 2011. He was a veteran having served in the US Navy. Professionally, he was retired from VDOT after 17 years of service and later volunteered at the VA Medical Center. Preceding him in death were his parents, Hugh and Ollie Howard; daughter, Kathy McElreavy; brothers, Lloyd Howard, Rufus Howard, Oakley Howard, and Harless Howard; sister, Elsie Epperly; and son-in-law, William Henson. His surviving family includes his children, Wanda Belcher and husband, Larry, Pam Henson, and Clinton Howard; siblings, Dorothy Howard, Edith Light, Edward Howard, and Jessie Howard; grandchildren, Preston Matheney, Heather Robertson and husband, Charles, Sr., Brandon Howard, Chad Howard, and Hope Howard; great-grandchildren, Charles Robertson, Jr., Michaela Robertson, Alexandria Matheney, and Mercedize Matheney; and many other friends and loved ones. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The Rev. Stuart Kelly will officiate.
