Aileen Vernon Bohon, 85, of Salem, passed away Monday February 7, 2011.
She was born in Wytheville, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Carrie McClintock Vernon and had been a Roanoke area resident for most of her life. She was a long time employee of the VA Medical Center in Salem, serving as a dietetic secretary and was most recently employed at the Roanoke County Jail where she served as dietary supervisor. Aileen was of the Methodist faith, and had been attending services at Richfield Retirement Community, where she was a tireless and beloved volunteer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Vernon, and her loving husband, Raymond Russell Bohon, who died in 1983.
She is survived by a son, Russell Bohon and his wife Janine of Summerville, SC; a daughter, Deborah Hartman and her husband Shorty of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Lisa Bishop and her husband Brian, Christy Anderson and her husband Jody, Elijah, Micah and Jeremiah Bohon; four great-grandchildren, Joseph and Taylor Bishop, and Connor and Caleb Anderson, and her faithful pet companion, Sophie.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM, Friday, February 11, 2011 in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Clay will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The American Heart Association, 4504 Starkey Rd.
