Obituary for Wilmer Robert "Bill" Manning

Bill Manning, 82, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, November 20, 2022. He was born on February 10, 1940, to the late Cleveland and Cleo Horne Manning. He retired from VDOT as an Assistant Resident Engineer in 2005 after 43 years of employment in various positions. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing trips at the beach, watching his grandchildren play sports, and gardening. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nannie, and Daddy Bill Horne; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marie and Paul Guilliams; and brother, Lynn Manning
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Manning; daughter, Kim Newton and husband, Kenny; son, Scott Manning, and wife, Kacie; grandchildren, Hannah Newton, Kendall Manning, and Alec Manning; step-grandchildren, Karter Yopp, Drew Yopp, Lauren Sheetz, and Logan Sheetz; sisters-in-law, Kim Manning and Wilma Guilliams; and brother-in-law, Steve Guilliams
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Charlie Briscoe officiating. Entombment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Friendship Salem Terrace and the wonderful nurses of the Dogwood Memory Care facility.
