Obituary for Troy Jackson Blankenship

Troy Jackson Blankenship, age 43, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Shelton; father, Roy Blankenship; and grandparents, Otha “Jack,” Elizabeth, Junior, and Ruby.

He is survived by brothers, Travis Blankenship (Tracey) and Brandon Shelton (Kayla); and step-parents, Eddie Shelton and Diana Blankenship. He is also survived by a very special aunt, Sue Lee. Thank you for all you have done for Troy. He carried a special place for you in his heart just as you do for him.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to friends, Tim and Edna, Chrissy and Connie, members of Blue Ridge Church of Christ, and John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.

Troy is most remembered by his acts of kindness, his humor, and his love and care for his cat, “Smokey Joe”. He was a beautiful soul taken too soon and will surely be missed by many.

The family will receive visitors for an “in car” Celebration of Life conducted by George Larue at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Faith Wesleyan Chapel (Fort Lewis Lion’s Club). The family wishes to adhere to state guidelines regarding COVID-19; condolences to the family are welcomed in groups of no more than 10 with proper PPE at the end of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Troy be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA at www.rvspca.org.
