Obituary for Sarah Butler Tuckwiller

Sarah Butler Tuckwiller, 83, of Salem, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

Sarah received her college degree from Roanoke College and retired from General Electric in Salem. She was a long-time member of the Salem Church of Christ, and enjoyed volunteering. One of her favorite pastimes was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Trula Butler; husband, Jim Tuckwiller; and siblings, Walter Butler, Jr., Mary Smith, George Butler, Bill Butler, Johnny Butler, and Francis Butler.

Her surviving family includes her children, James Lewis “Marty” Tuckwiller, Jr. and wife, Rene, Sarah Katherine Cromer and husband, Stephen, James Ray Tuckwiller and wife, Sandy, Samuel Kirk Tuckwiller, Kristeen Counts and husband, Pat, and Ralph Walter Tuckwiller and wife, Loretta; grandchildren Joshua Tuckwiller, Lisa Tuckwiller, Jamie Tuckwiller, Kimberly Tuckwiller, Sara Dickey and husband, Andrew, Christopher Counts and wife, Sarah, Kelli Jenkins and husband, Darren, and David Preamjaisanchat and wife, Rachel; great-grandchildren, Oliva Lynch, Jaden Tuckwiller, Isaac Tuckwiller, Avery Counts, Juliet Counts, Margot Counts, Marielle Counts, Owen Jenkins, Harper Jenkins, Maiya Preamjaisanchat, and Elora Preamjaisanchat; and multiple nieces and nephews.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff of Richfield Recovery & Care Center as well as Good Samaritan Hospice for their tremendous love and care of Sarah.

A celebration of Sarah’s life will take place on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. and a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest privately at East Hill Cemetery.
