Rebecca Elizabeth Salmon Williams, 89, went home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, Friday, March 20, 2020. Born in Roanoke VA, September 25, 1930, to the late Rev. & Mrs. W. B. Salmon. Also preceded are her husband, George Hammond ‘Ham’ Williams, Sr.; son, Rev. George H. ‘Tex’ Williams, Jr.; and 11 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela W. Braxton, daughter-in-law, Bonita L. Williams. Eleven grandchildren: Larry D. Braxton, Jr., Katie (Ivan) Torres, Che’rie Braxton, Michael (Renee) Williams, George H. ‘Dub’ (Denise) Williams, III, Christopher (Jeanna) Williams, Joshua Williams; Six great-grandchildren: Zackary, Claire Ann, Brittney, George H. ‘LT’ IV, Preston, Auston; one brother, Rev. Daniel R. Salmon, one sister, Ruby Parks Whitt, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
She spent her life ministering the Gospel of Christ thru piano and song. Her life was her testimony to God’s faithfulness. The most important thing she would want you to know as you read this: Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior? John 3:16 KJV.
She was a dedicated member of the Gospel Lighthouse of Roanoke outreach ministry for over 50 years. God gave her the gift to play the piano by ear. She played for numerous evangelists, churches, ministries, and retirement communities. She had been a member of the Fishers of Men gospel group.
She wrote songs, poems, and compiled Bible study programs to strengthen one’s walk with the Lord. She was a prayer warrior. Not only did she take your prayer request and pray for your concerns, when you asked for prayer she would pray right there with you.
She would always remind us: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
Tomorrow Without Fear
Rebecca Salmon Williams © 2002
Wars, commotion, distress in the street,
Nation against nation, hate, envy, deceit.
Earth moves from its place, as giants waking from sleep,
Strange unlikely places, too little to eat.
Pain, disease raging, in sight no relief,
Each day unknown, new challenges to meet.
Jesus said, “Be not terrified”, “Be not deceived”
“For as the lightning cometh out of the east,
and shineth even unto the west;
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
Believers face tomorrow without discouragement or fear,
Whatever encountered, we know God is near;
Squaring belief with truth wherever found,
Whether pleasant or painful, by The Word bound.
Without fear face tomorrow, there’s only one way,
Pray without ceasing, worship God with praise!!
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9 KJV “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 KJV
In light of the current day events, a private service must take place at Sherwood Memorial. Friends & family are welcome to join the celebration of life on Monday 03-23-20 between 2-8 pm at her daughters’ home.
She was a faithful giver throughout her life and donated to many charities. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity, or one of hers: Voice of the Martyrs, International Fellowship of Christians & Jews, or family member or friend in need.
Please share your special memories and photos with us and keep the spirit of her memory alive.
