Phyllis Basham Okes, 76, of Shawsville, Va., passed away suddenly on April 2, 2023, at Lewis Gale Medical Center. Although she lived in Shawsville, she was a longtime resident of Interlachen, Florida before returning home to Shawsville in 2017. In her retirement, Phyllis served as a long-term caregiver to both his late parents and her husband.
Born on June 30, 1946, in Montgomery County, Va. to the late Paul and Irene Basham, Phyllis is also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, William H. Okes; her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Brenda Basham; her daughter, Terena Lester Meador, her youngest grandson, Mark Okes, and her in-laws, Carl and Ruby Okes.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Timothy Lester and William H. Okes, II, of Orange Park, Fl.; daughter, Crystal (Dean) Altman-Davis, of Shawsville, Va.; grandchildren, Michelle (Travis) Smith, Jade (Kenny) Keene, Megann (Jason) Zeides, Matthew Okes, Mason Lester-Hardman, Shane Altman, Patricia Altman; five great-grandchildren, as well as her only sister, Mary (Leon) Haley, of Elliston, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the MICU staff of Lewis Gale Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Phyllis and their family during this difficult time.
