Obituary for Phillip Sheppard "Shep" Wohlford

Phillip Sheppard “Shep” Wohlford, 56 of Roanoke, Va, formerly of Pittsburg, Pa, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 7, 2022. He was born to the late Harold V. Wohlford and Ruby Whitlow Alexander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margret Ann Wohlford, and his special friend, Norman Conaway. Left to cherish his memory include sister, Karen Sue Wohlford Irby, and husband, Thomas Irby; special friends, Karin Bostic, Audrey Hairston, Christian Johnson, Gloria Kempvanee, Tammy Kesler, Brad Maiden, Rodney Musselman, Tony Saddler, Cindy Wellons, and Robyn Wills. Phillip, affectionately known as “Shep,” enjoyed the intellectual conversations, travel, karaoke, music, racket ball, Trivial Pursuit, sit-down dinners with loved ones, writing reviews, and watching movies with strong emotional messages and connections. He brought love, kindness, and smiles to all he encountered and is remembered for giving one of his best Macbeth improvisations ever. At the age of 10, Phillip became a born-again Christian, after being led by the congregation of First Nazareth Church in Bethlehem, Pa. in the year of 1976. He re-dedicated his life to Christ in 1979 while attending First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Phillip graduated from Cave Spring High School in 1984, continued his studies, and held many degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Communication, Masters in Business Administration, Masters of Industrial-Organization Psychology, Post Baccalaureate Certification in Counseling with Specialization in Diversity Studies.
Graveside services to honor his life will be conducted on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 3 pm at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke. Pastor Joe Greene will officiate.
