Obituary for Philip Page Johnson

Philip Page Johnson, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Lewis Gale Medical Center. He was born on April 16, 1941, in Bedford, VA, the oldest son of the late Hunter Cole Johnson and Ethel Payne Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Hunter Johnson, his sister, Joyce Johnson Carter, and his son-in-law, Todd Hughes.

Philip was a longtime accountant of Rubatex Corporation in Bedford, Va. He also played for the baseball team for Rubatex, as pitcher. He was a longtime member of the Bedford Moose Lodge #1897.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen J. Hughes of New Port Richey, Fl; Melanie J. Slate and husband Roger of Salem, VA; four grandsons, Timothy Slate of Salem, VA, TJ Hughes of Gainesville Fl, Michael Slate and Jeremy Slate of Salem, VA. One great-grandson, Owen Michael Slate of Salem, VA, and special friend for 20 years, Margie Lockard of Roanoke, VA.

Philip loved to socialize, watch Virginia Tech football, basketball and baseball. He watched all the NFL games and was looking forward to the 2022 fall season. He loved to spend time with his family. He always enjoyed a good conversation and a home cooked meal.
