Paula Ann Holdren, 72, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, May 13, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer; her daughter, Angela, sister, Kathy, and granddaughter, Brittany were by her side. Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Martha Houff.
Paula retired in August 2019 from the Virginia Department of Social Services, after 25 years of faithful service. She enjoyed beach trips with her family and day trips with her sisters and friends, especially if they included shopping for shoes, pocketbooks, jewelry, and clothes. Paula could often be found curled up with a good book, as she enjoyed reading current novels. She also had an extensive collection of owls. The holidays were special to Paula and she enjoyed riding around to look at the Christmas lights and decorations. Above all, she loved her family and spending time with them, and her cat, Simon.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Angela Bryant and Steve Trail, and Amanda Orange and husband, Nathan; sons Bryan Houff and wife, Brandi, Ricky Holdren and wife, Dana, and Andrew Holdren and wife, Andrea; grandchildren, Brittany Wright, Caitlyn Wright, Hannah Bryant, Cash Orange, Madison Brown, Kinsley Love, Hayden Love, Parker Holdren, Presley Holdren, and Connor Holdren; great-granddaughter, McKinley Shannon; sisters, Sherry Buckner and husband, Alan, and Kathy Wilson and husband, Tim, as well as a brother, Ray Houff and wife, Astra.
The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Chaplain Ben Mewald officiating.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Karri and her staff for their compassionate and loving care.
