Obituary for Paul Oscar Ard Jr.

Paul O. Ard, Jr. passed away on August 1, 2022, in Roanoke, Virginia, at the age of 82.
He “…has slipped the surly bonds of earth…and touched the face of God”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Manning Ard and Paul O. Ard, Sr., and his brother, Jere S. Ard.
Paul was a graduate of Murphy High School, Presbyterian College, and Columbia Theological Seminary. He served in the US Army at Ford Carson, Colorado. Following an eleven-year career with Citizens and Southern Bank, he entered seminary and pastored two churches, Mars Hill Presbyterian in Athens, Tennessee, and Lawrenceville Presbyterian in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Susan, sons Paul III of New York City; Brian (Robin), Roanoke, Virginia; Andy (Ange), Denver, Colorado; and three granddaughters, Madelyn, Olivia, and Annabeth, as well as sister Lynnette Cannon and sister-in-law Vivian Ard and nieces.
In Paul’s later years, golf and reading were no longer options, but he accepted his many health-related limitations with grace, courage, and humor. He served the church and community with integrity and compassion. He always carried a small silver cross in his pocket.
Years ago, Paul and others worked tirelessly to establish the Lawrenceville Co-Op Ministry. (52 Gwinnett Drive, Suite C, Lawrenceville, GA 30046) Donations to this organization will feed and assist many in need. Thank you. Well done, good and faithful servant.
There will be a memorial service at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke on Friday, August 5 at 11:00 am.
