Obituary

Patricia Ann “Cantwell” Estes, 69, of Roanoke, loving, loyal and supportive wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Patricia was born on July 25, 1951 in Baltimore, MD to the late Hollis and Beatrice (Eppard) Cantwell.
Patricia grew up in Baltimore Highlands and graduated from Lansdowne Sr. High School where she made life-long friends. While in high school, Patricia worked as a co-op for the National Security Agency where she went onto proudly work full-time as an Intelligence Analyst for 37½ years when she finally retired in January of 2008. Patricia was devoutly patriotic. She loved her country, was proud to serve and to have her son and grandson serve in the United States Air Force.
Patricia met and married her soulmate, Don Estes on October 13, 2007. They met in 2004 and it was love at first sight. They would have celebrated 13 years of marriage. After retirement, Patricia enjoyed spending her free time with her husband taking weekend getaways.
Patricia was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, a love she inherited from and shared with her father. She was a compassionate, loving soul and an outstanding friend ready to lend an ear to anyone who needed love or support. She loved and doted on her grandchildren and savored every moment she got to spend with them, taking every opportunity to be with them whether she was driving to Maryland, New York, or Michigan.
She is survived by her husband Don Estes; her son, JR Lightstein (Carrie); her daughters, Trisha Thomas (Dayne), step-daughter, Celeste Trigg; grandchildren, Courtney Thomas; Caleb Parks; Zander and Emily Thomas; Nate, Jeb, Zach and Trinity Lightstein; Austin Doss, Gammon Trigg and Alexi Trigg; brother Hollis T. Cantwell Jr. (Jerry); sisters Genevieve Montgomery (John), Linda Knapp (Walt), sister-in-law, Barbara Moore (Jerry), friend, Mary Diane Burns, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Shortt, nephew John Montgomery, Jr. and niece Marcy Knapp.
Patricia was a faithful wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She was a good friend with a kind and compassionate heart. Everyone who met her enjoyed being around her. She made this world a better place while she was here, and she will be dearly missed.
Patricia’s family will hold a memorial service for family and friends from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Long Point Hall, 1534 Long Point Rd, Pasadena, MD 21122. You are encouraged to follow all current recommended CDC and local government guidelines regarding masks and social distancing procedures due the Covid-19 pandemic.
Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.johnmoakey.com.
