Obituary for Nancy Armentrout Lang

Nancy A. Lang died Thursday, October 8, 2020, at The Hermitage in Roanoke.

She was born on May 27, 1925, the daughter of Carney and Nellie (Hiatt) Armentrout of Elkins, W.Va. A proud alumna of Davis and Elkins College, she made her home in Moorefield W.Va., where she lived happily for many years with husband, Guy N. Lang, owner of Lang’s Pharmacy. In Moorefield, she was active in Duffey Memorial Methodist Church and the DAR. Her family enjoyed gathering at the Lang home in Moorefield for Thanksgiving feasts, and on Christmas Eves, for her signature fried oyster suppers. Nancy was an avid golfer, a sport she continued to enjoy when she moved to Salem with her sister, Jane Maxwell, in 1994. In her elder years, she enjoyed watching old movies, taking long rides through the countryside, and making jokes with anyone in her company. Nancy was particularly fortunate and grateful to receive assistance from a wonderful group of caring, dedicated individuals and caregivers: Lea Mitchell; employees of NEXUS, including Frances, Leslie, Donna, Trish, Heather, and Christina; and the many staff members of The Hermitage in Roanoke, and Good Samaritan Hospice.

She is survived by nephews, Maurice H Maxwell (Rebecca) of Farmville, Va., and William C. Maxwell (Rosemary) of Salem, Va.; three grand-nieces; and five great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews.

A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date in Elkins, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to: The Hermitage in Roanoke, 1009 Old Country Club Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24017 (www.hermitageroanoke.org).
