Obituary for Myra Lee Vance (Nichols)

Myra Lee Nichols Vance, 81, died Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salem, Va., where she had been a resident for seven years.

Born January 20, 1941, in Mullens, W.Va., Myra was the oldest child of Thomas Joseph Nichols and Pauline Pinson Nichols. She was a 1958 graduate of Mullens High School and moved to Charleston, W.Va. where she lived for over 50 years. She was employed by Kanawha Manufacturing Co.

Myra was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mullens and later at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Charleston where she was very active.

Myra was a very vibrant and beautiful woman who was known for her youthful appearance as she grew older. Her claim to agelessness was eating onions everyday and she even had tattoos of onions.

Survivors include a son, John Vance (J.T.) of Blacksburg, Va.; grandson, Seth; great-grandson, Christian; sisters, Elizabeth Nichols-Ross (Beaver Ross) of Cambridge, N.Y., and Tommie Jo Nichols of Roanoke, Va.; and her nephew therapy dog, Benny, that visited her regularly.

A private service was held at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va., on Saturday, April 30, 2022, where she was cremated.

Many thanks to the residents and staff of Brookdale in Salem for their wonderful care and friendship, and to John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem for their gracious service.
