Maurice Lee Myers, 86, of Shawsville, Virginia changed his residence on Sunday, March 6, 2022. He transitioned from walking the streets of Salem in his job as a Meter Services Supervisor for the City of Salem, to walking the roads for exercise in his beloved Shawsville neighborhood, to walking with Jesus and his family on the streets of pure gold, something that he has talked about a lot in the last few weeks. He served his country in the US Army as a member of the 11th Airborne and was a long-time member of the Salem Rescue Squad. Moe retired from the City of Salem after 35 years, he loved his hometown, and his love of Salem football was apparent by all who knew him. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and loved his Agape SS Class.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Pat Myers, his daughter Cynthia Wright (Wallace), son Ron Myers (Radio Ron, the voice of Salem), daughter Leslie Harris (Gary), and his son Mike Roop. Also, his precious grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Casey Wright (Amanda) and Morgan Wright (Wade), and three precious adorable great-grandchildren, Olivia and Landon Visel and Carson Wright. He is also survived by his brother Bill Myers (Janice) and his sister Sarah Chittum (Richard), his best friend Scott Whitlock (Susan), and a multitude of family and friends.
Moe was a kind, gentle, humble man of few words, preferring to lead by example. He was first and foremost a family man and his family will miss him deeply.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Pastor Hilton Jeffreys will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church Food Pantry, The Spare Change Ministry, or The Salem Sports Foundation.
