Marjorie R. Davis, “Rebecca,” of Salem, VA died Saturday, December 26, 2020 at a local hospital.
Daughter of Loren Thomas and Ruth Morehead Thomas, Rebecca was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. She graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Radford University. Following graduation, she served in the Peace Corp in Brazil where, in 1967, she met Chester Davis, a fellow Peace Corp volunteer; and they wed in 1968. After their return to the U.S. Rebecca went on to earn a Master’s Degree from George Washington University. She worked in higher education at Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and then as the Dean for Academic Services and Registrar at the Washington College of Law. Following her and Chet’s retirement she returned to Salem, VA. Rebecca had a passion for her family.
She is survived by her son, Nathan M. Davis; Daughter-in-law, Miki Davis; sister, Betty Thomas Bailey; brother-in-law, Clyde Evely; niece Tristy Evely; brother-in-law, Michael Davis; sister-in-law Sara Davis; nephews Mike and Alex Davis; and her beloved grandchildren, Kieran, Hayden, Ryan, and Kellen.
The family wishes to give special thanks to our cousin Rebecca Wooldridge Ewell and to the teams in Carilion Oncology and Palliative Care.
Her life will be celebrated in the spring in a private service. In leiu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Rebecca’s name.
