Obituary for Lyndell Nelson Woods

Lyndell Nelson “Dale” Woods, 60, of Salem, VA, was called from service on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at his home. He was born on Tuesday, March 8, 1960, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Rodney Leroy and Maria Liebelt Woods of Salem, VA. Dale was a member of the first graduating class from Salem High School in 1978. He spent more than 22 years with PMI. Among his many community involvements, the heart of it all was his volunteer career with Fort Lewis Fire Department in where he served from March 19, 1981, until December 31, 2003. He retired as Captain from Ft. Lewis Fire Department and continued to be active with recruitment. Dale was involved with local Boy Scout Troops and coaching Glenvar Recreation League soccer. Being outdoors held a special place in Dale’s heart as he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was recognized as a Master Angler I which was awarded to him by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Dale was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Gofflief Liebelt; paternal grandfather, Roy L. Woods; and one aunt, Linda DeGroot
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jewel M. Woods; son, Daniel Hunter Woods and wife, Erin of Tampa, FL; paternal grandmother, Lilliam Ratliff Woods; sister, Monica Potts and husband, David of Salem, VA; brother, Clifton Woods and wife, Chrissy of Mechanicsville, VA; aunt, Wanda Waltz of Salem, VA; four step-daughters; 8 step-grandchildren; fur-children, Blue and Molly.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Living Well Church of the Nazarene, 4335 W. Main St., Salem, VA 24153, with Rev. Marshall Allen officiating. The interment will be held privately with his family at Reesedale Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020, at the church.
Those in attendance must wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Amedysis Hospice for the care that was shown to Dale.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fort Lewis Fire Department, P.O. Box 1941, Salem, VA 24153.
