Obituary for Luther James "Pooch" Garst, Jr.

Luther “Pooch”, “Jr” James Garst, Jr. 88, of Roanoke County, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther James Garst, Sr. and Annie Wyatte Staples Garst; siblings, Jack, Gladys “Tug”, Aliene; Daughter, Jennifer; son, Chip; son-in-law, Michael.

Luther was a Master Electrician and was one of the founding members of The Roanoke Valley Racking Horse Foundation. He was a friend to everyone he met and created many great friendships.

Those left on earth to cherish his memory include his wife of 35 years, Martha Anderson Garst; children, Tony, Cathy, Brian (Mechelle), Todd (Julie), Roxanne, Connie; grandchildren, Jeannie, Corey, Jamey, Lauren, Michael, Anthony, Mitch, Sarah, Heather, Whitney; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Luther, Cameron, Jennifer, Bradin, Spencer, Archie, Kenzie, Jackson, Logan, Lily, Annalia, Xavier, Isadora, Azariah, Natalie, Ella; great-great-grandchildren, Thomas and Nala.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Amedisys for the exceptional care given when it was needed most. A special thank you to private CNA, Linda Martin for going that extra mile.

The family will receive friends in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation.
