Obituary for Kathryn "Gail" Hedrick

Kathryn "Gail" Hedrick, 103, of Salem, Virginia, formerly of Alliance, Ohio, departed quietly and peacefully to go home and be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

She was the daughter of the late Kennie Oscar and Elva Rebecca (Cunningham) Mullennex. She was born in Dry Fork, West Virginia. She graduated from Harmon High School.

To know Gail was to love Gail. She was a joy and a blessing! First and foremost, she loved the Lord and is now rejoicing in His presence. Her children and family were her life. Her love and legacy will live on for many generations through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her sweet, quiet nature and strength showed in all she did. She loved making crafts and leaves behind many crocheted, embroidered and painted items for her loved ones to cherish. She continued doing crafts while residing at Snyder Nursing Home until failing eyesight no longer allowed her to participate. She enjoyed occasional outings to Pizza Hut for their buffet, which was her favorite.

She met the love of her life, Richard P. Hedrick, and they married in Monterey, Virginia on July 15, 1940.

Together, they raised a beautiful family of five children: Judith G. Martin of Millville, Utah; Rick (Erma) Hedrick of Salem, Virginia; Randy, who was waiting for her in heaven, (Joyce) of Ravenna, Ohio; Karen Anders of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Kathy (Charlie) King of Salem, Virginia. Also left to cherish her memory are 10 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandsons. Their legacy will live on for many generations.

She leaves behind friends from Ohio, the Sister Chicks and her Sunday School class at Portage Community Chapel in Ravenna, Ohio. Also, a dear friend who has written to her faithfully every month for over 10 years, Terri Pawlak. In addition, she has a faithful following of Facebook friends and family, who have loved and supported her over the years. Thanks to each of you for your love of Mom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Hedrick; son, Randall W. Hedrick and infant daughter, Delores F. Hedrick.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the Arbovale Cemetery in Arbovale, West Virginia.

Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Gail's family would like to thank the staff of Snyder Nursing Home for their amazing love and care of our sweet, precious Mom. We are so thankful for you! We would also like to thank Tina Coleman, who lovingly cared for Mom while living at Knollwood Apartments. God richly blessed us with wonderful people to love and care for Mom.
