Obituary for Kathryn English (Whitley)

Kathy “Maw-Maw” English was reunited with her true love and our Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 31st, 2022. Born to William “Bill” and Lorene Whitley in Salisbury, NC where she spent most of her childhood, Kathy moved to Virginia in 1977 with her high school sweetheart and the love of her life.

Kathy was predeceased by her loving husband, Darrell English; father, William “Bill” Whitley and her brother, Bill Whitley. Kathy is survived by her mother, Lorene Whitley; daughter Angie English; son, Scott English and spouse, Leslie, and her youngest daughter, Lori Wimmer and spouse, Chris Wimmer; grandchildren who were the light of her life – Summer English, Kaitlyn Harris, Autumn English, Georgia Wimmer, Grady English, and Maxwell Wimmer; her very special friend who spent countless hours by her side caring for her, Martin Gallimore, as well as her two sweet beagles, Ziva and Queenie.

Kathy was shining light in every room that she walked into. She was a carefree spirit who loved to play her music loud and live every day simple but happy. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and trying to stay out of “Facebook jail.” Her favorite quote was “Let’s Go Brandon,” but Facebook fact checkers didn’t like that much so she switched to “Trump 2024” to stay out of trouble.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amanda with Carilion Hospice in Montgomery County as well as Ayers Law Firm of Salem, VA for your overwhelming compassion and support. In addition, a special thank you to the Gallimore family -- Mom was especially grateful to be welcomed by each of you and to be a part of your family for these past few years.

Honoring Kathy’s wishes, the family will not have a visitation service; however, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later time for immediate family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations on her behalf made to the Angels of Assisi of Roanoke at https://www.angelsofassisi.org/donate-now/.
