Joseph William Shorter, 83, of Salem, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2022. Born Monday, August 7, 1939, in Salem, VA to the late Robert Nolan Shorter and Lucille Woolwine Shorter. Joe was the owner and operator of Shorter Data Services LLC., a veteran of the United States Navy, and a long-time member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Salem, VA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Jim Shorter, Ronnie Shorter, and Ken Shorter.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years Carolyn Shorter; sons, Chad Shorter and wife Melanie, and Robert Shorter; brothers, Doug Shorter, Sr., and Gary Shorter; grandchildren, CJ Shorter and wife, Jasmine, Emily Steele and husband, Devin; great-grandchildren, Kenzie Steele; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 703 Hemlock Rd., NW, Roanoke, VA 24017, with Pastor Roy Kanode officiating. Interment will follow at Blueridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
Friends may visit with the family from 12 p.m. noon until the hour of the service, The funeral service for Mr. Shorter will be live-streamed underneath this obituary notice.
