John William (Bill) McCauley, 91, of Salem, Va., passed into the presence of the Lord on Friday, January 14, 2022.
Bill was a US Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. Following his service years, he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill. Bill was passionate about missions, and he expressed that most when he was a charter member of the church that is now called New Grace Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va. He faithfully prayed for and supported world missionaries through the years. His working career was as a materials technician with the Virginia Department of Transportation. In his retirement, he enjoyed working on family history, biking, and yardwork.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James Pinkerton McCauley of Salem, Va., and Ola Mae Barrier McCauley of Spencer, N.C.; beloved wife of 57 years, Marilyn Ann McCauley of Altoona, Pa.; and all five of his siblings, Mary Virginia Greer of Marion, Va., Dorothy Barrier Butler of Salem, Va., Margaret Ellen Sumrell of Rocky Mount, Va., twin brother James Pinkerton McCauley of Mount Ulla, N.C., and Elizabeth Jane Hiler of Topeka, Kan.
His surviving family includes his children, Kenneth David McCauley and wife, Carla, of Salem, Va., and Cheryl McCauley Campbell and husband, Ronald, of Salem, Va.; grandchildren, Jessica Webb and husband, Billy, of Bristow, Va., David McCauley and wife, Maranda, of Hernando, Miss., Kenneth McCauley of Roanoke, Va., Brian Campbell of Roanoke, Va., Kevin Campbell and wife, Michelle, of Grottoes, Va., and Scott Campbell and wife, Erica, of Arlington, Va.; great-grandchildren, Haddon and Eliza McCauley of Hernando, Miss., and Easton and Lyla Campbell of Grottoes, Va.; sister-in-law, Billie Ann McCauley; and beloved niece who took him on many enjoyable trips, Becky Brouwer of Charleston, S.C.
The family extends sincere appreciation to all those who gave loving care and faithful service during the latter years of Bill’s life.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va., with a period of visitation beginning at 9 a.m. and a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, also in Salem, Va.
