Jessica Lynn Journell, 49, of Salem, Virginia passed away on April 2, 2023, after a very determined and courageous fight against the effects of chemotherapy. Jessica was a very free spirited and happy-go-lucky woman. She loved to watch birds, butterflies, and pick or grow her wildflowers. Jessica lived life to the fullest and especially loved being in and around the water, mostly in it! Later in life Jessica proved to be very talented at any and all types of craft work; paper machete, air-dry clay, and painting. She loved making messes with her paint, and liked to make it known than she was an avid Bob Ross fan. She is preceded in death by her grandma and grandpa, Mr. and Mrs. Journell; grandpa, Jullian Brammer; father, Howard “Teddy” Journell; stepfather, Fred Dotson; spouse, Jeffrey Barrens; brother, Anthony Travis Journell; uncles, Sparky Journell, and Duane Wheeler; aunt, Kitty Journell; and a cousin, Judd Hall.

Left to cherish her memory include her son, Jacob Journell; mother, Mary “Cindy” Wheeler (Dotson): fiancé and best friend, Larry Gordon; many beloved friends from all walks of life.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church, 1920 Lucas Street, Salem, VA 24153, with Pastor Brian Gordon officiating.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
