Jerry Grant Phillips, 72, of Southeast Roanoke, met Jesus face to face on November 19th, 2022. Jerry Is preceded in death by his parents Ellen Ballowe Phillips, and LV “Bill” Phillips JR. Those left here to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dorothy “Dot” Phillips; Sister, Mary Phillips Martin; Daughter, Carissa “Cari” Preas and husband Jason; and his Grandchildren, Sydney Paige Preas, and James “Tucker” Preas.
In the words of his family, Jerry was a very humble person to anyone that met him. He never felt like he deserved or wanted anything from anyone except respect. Jerry could remember everything and was a very intelligent man. He was always so kind to everyone he met, and even in difficult, or frustrating situations, he could always find a way to be direct, yet kind to the people he was talking to.
One of Jerry’s favorite things to do was yard work. He loved mowing the grass and fixing things around the house to make his beautiful home look perfect. Jerry’s sister was his partner for all his adventures, whether she was helping him with yard work, or fixing something around the house, she was always by his side to help him with whatever he needed. Jerry was a very appreciative man and told his family often that he was thankful for what they have done for him.
Jerry requested that we extend his gratitude to all his family and friends that stuck by his side through his entire journey. His family would like to express an extra special thank you to the Lord for always being a focus in life and encouraging them to keep moving forward.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 4:00 pm in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
