Obituary for Jean Calton Pearson

Jean Calton Pearson passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 84.

Her life was full of many blessings, the most recent becoming a great grandmother to Knox Wray. Jean was born in Dryden, Va., and attended Radford University where she graduated at the age of 19. She married and moved to Roanoke where she taught school briefly before starting her family. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors. She treasured her church relationships, golf trips, playing bridge, and most of all attending her children’s activities through the years. Jean especially enjoyed the holidays, baking with her sisters, beach trips, and any reason to gather as a family. She was fiercely dedicated and loyal to those she loved.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde (2010), of 53 years, multiple siblings, parents, and other extended family.

She will be missed by everyone who knew her but especially by her daughter, Beth (Van) Williams; son, Tim Pearson; and grandchildren, Mariah Taylor (Hunter) Wray and Logan (Lauren) Pearson; and brother-in-law, Steve Wiley; and other extended family members.

We are forever grateful for her caregivers who lovingly cared for her and over the years became her close friends, Eva Taylor, Mary Ann Mercer, Nicolette Darragh, and more recently Deanna Holloway and Fay Cronin.

Please join us as we celebrate the life of our dear mother and grandmother on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. The family will receive visitors beginning at 2:30 p.m. with a memorial service following at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Rescue Mission (Roanoke) or Windsor Hills United Methodist Church where she was a member for more than 50 years. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
