Obituary

James Steven “Jake” White, 66, of Salem, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, in Salem, Va. He was born on Sunday, August 9, 1953, in Giles County to the late Thelma White. Jake started making music when he was about twelve years old, his passion was country and gospel music! It was evident that one of the greatest joys in his life was music. Jake loved his family and of the many attributes he is most noted for the huge cookouts he would host at his home in Salem, being around his family brought joy to his world. He also never met a stranger as he showed himself to be a friend to anyone along his path of life. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his wife, Veneva Gaye Holt White; brother, Allen white; and most recently his sister, Sue Cox.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Trish “Pic” White and special friend, Shawn Chappell; sister, Linda Shepperd; long term companion and caregiver, Barbara Ann; several nieces and nephews; and two very special dogs, Benjie and Sugar.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, June 5, 2020, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va., with Pastor Sharon Hartman officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at the funeral home. With current health concerns, you are kindly asked to wear a face-covering while in the funeral home where all current CDC guidelines will be implemented regarding social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial contribution to the American Diabetes Association, https://www.diabetes.org/donate
