James E. Plympton, Jr., 69, of Salem, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Saturday, April 28, 1951, in Ohio to the late Ruth Randall Plympton and James Plympton. Jim started and operated JEPCO Pressure Cleaning in 1984 and continued its operation until the time of his passing. He was a member of Fort Lewis Baptist Church in Salem, where he served as a youth Sunday school teacher for over 40 years; he also served as a Deacon. In Christ-like stewardship, he always found time to help others. This Christian trait was most evident in his work with the American Red Cross as a Disaster Relief Volunteer since 1980 and his involvement as the driver of the Spirit of America Disaster Relief mobile kitchen. Jim was a former member of the Lions Club, a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and Transport for Christ. He was a tender-hearted man who found laughter in everything with his quick sense of humor. He could fix anything, especially cars or small engines. The simple pleasures in life were the best, notably: chocolate cake, peanut M&Ms, a big cup of black coffee, and watching westerns and NASCAR on TV. He enjoyed the traditional hymns of faith and 60’s music!
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Janice Plympton; son, Jimmy Plympton and wife, Annette; daughter, Jan Forster, and husband, Justin; grandchildren, Beth Plympton, Willie Plympton and fiancé, Autumn Mitchell, Jeremiah Plympton, Jake Pendleton, Haley Pendleton, Jordan Forster, Justice Forster, Jamie Forster, and Jace Forster; sister Kathy Delaware and husband, Dave; brothers, Dave Plympton and Kit Plympton; numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all of their customers and friends who supported JEPCO Pressure Cleaning for 36 years, family members and friends who shared words of encouragement and ceaseless prayer, and the Good Samaritan Hospice Team for their kind and compassionate care.
In response to COVID-19, the visitation and celebration of life will be held outdoors at Fort Lewis Baptist Church, 4215 West Main Street, Salem, VA, 24153 on Sunday October 18, 2020.
Friends may visit with the family at the church from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. with a service beginning at 4 p.m. The use of face masks and social distancing is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorial contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief, any cancer charity of your choice, or to Fort Lewis Baptist Church in honor of Jim.
