Obituary for James Basil Keaton Jr.

Rev. James B. “Jimmy” Keaton, Jr., 59, of Hanover, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the Hershey Medical Center.

He was the husband of Susan B. Elsey Keaton. On December 3rd they would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary.

Born in Louisa, Va., on September 6, 1963, he was the son of Rev. James B. and Carolyn S. Cash Keaton of Hardy, Va.
Jimmy was the lead pastor at the Hanover Evangelical Brethren Church. He loved to golf, the Kentucky Wildcats, Civil War history and he loved music. Throughout his ministry, he pastored The Gospel Chapel in Daniels, W.Va., Westside Wesleyan Church in Shelbyville, Ind., Tarrant Bible Methodist Church in Tarrant City, Ala., Bedford First Wesleyan Church in Bedford, Ind., United Wesleyan Church in Jamestown, Tenn., Connecting Point Chapel in Beloit, Ohio, and Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle in Oak Hill, W.Va.

In addition to his wife and his parents, he is survived by his sons, James B. Keaton, III and his wife, Krista, of Hobe Sound, Fla. and Glenn D., husband of Heidi Keaton, of Hanover; grandchildren, William, Rose and Kolter; brothers, Jeff M., husband of Michelle Keaton, of Hardy, Va., Troy D., husband of Janel Keaton, of Hardy, Va., and Brian L., husband of Kim Keaton, of Moneta, Va.; sisters, Sandy J., wife of Melvin Adams, of Bedford, Va., Victoria S., wife of Ray Cragun, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kimberly D., wife of Phil Collingsworth, of Mt. Orab, Ohio, Becky R., wife of Tim Keep, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Julia D., wife of David Keep, of Moneta, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the New Life Assembly of God Church, 2136 Baltimore Pike, East Berlin, Pa. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Evangelical Brethren Church, 925 Broadway, Hanover, Pa., and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at the Promised Land Cemetery at EastLake, Smith Mountain Lake, Va.
