Obituary for Hilda Cecil Lucille White (Cecil)

Hilda Cecil White, 95, of Salem, went home to be with her Lord and to be reunited with her late husband, Everlyn, on Monday, November 30, 2020, at Friendship Health and Rehab South, in Roanoke.

She was born on January 13, 1925, in Roanoke County, Va., to the late Fred Moore and Nannie Elizabeth Craig Cecil.
Hilda was honored to serve her country, when needed most, as a contracted civilian, employed with the US Federal Government during WWII. She was specifically assigned to United States Marine Corps as a Cryptologist, where she was responsible for analyzing and interpreting coded messages as they came.
During her later years, you may have known her from Andrew Lewis High, where she helped to maintain the snack bar, making everyone happy with her famous brownies. Hilda was certainly a great cook and housewife, but she will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Everlyn Balford White; brother, Bunny Cecil; and her sister, Ida Clemons.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Edwin C. White, Linda White Bruce, and Fred W. White and wife, Charlotte; grandchildren, Patty McDonnell, Michelle Sparks, Bradley Hurley, Will White, and Misty Kassebaum; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service, honoring Hilda’s life, will be conducted on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Sherwood Memorial Park, in Salem, with Pastor Roy Kanode officiating.
