Harriett Ann Grubb Martin, 88, of Greensboro, NC, and originally of Salem (84 years), passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Spring Arbor Nursing Home in Greensboro, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born on June 21, 1934, in Roanoke, Va., the daughter of the late Henry and Blanche Grubb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Winston “Winkie” Martin; sisters, Hazel Hash, Ruby Lackey, and Juanita Gravely; and her brothers, Curtis and Wayne Grubb.

Harriett was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Salem, where she played the organ for 30-plus years. She absolutely loved playing golf and tennis, especially the “nine holers” at Roanoke Country Club.

Family remaining to cherish Harriett’s memory includes her daughter, Pamela Powell, and husband, Benjamin; and her grandson, who was certainly her pride and joy, Christopher Martin Powell, and wife, Norah.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 5 until 7 pm at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, in Salem. Graveside services to honor her life will be conducted at 11 am on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Church Hill Cemetery, also in Salem.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Spring Arbor in Greensboro for their love and support during her stay. They would also wish to thank the staff of AuthoraCare Hospice (Gwen, Lisa, and Pam) for their love, support, and guidance when it was most needed.
