Obituary for Harold Lee Kelley

Harold Lee Kelley, 81, of Roanoke, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was born on Friday, August 16, 1940, to the late Lillian Mary Shively Kelley and Howard Edmund Kelley. Harold retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department after thirty-four years of service. He and his wife Carol are members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, VA. He was also a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge and Roanoke Shrine Club. Harold served his community via the fire service, but his passion was his electrical work. He attained the rank of a Master Electrician, and owned and operated H. L. Kelley Electric Co., for fifty years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emma and Henry Leonard Kelley; and sister, Ruby Kelley Cooper.

He is survived by his wife Carol Elizabeth Garst Kelley; children, Kim Gallagher (Darrell), Tonya McCain, Lisa Maddox (Mikel), Dean Kelley (Dana), Stephanie Garst (David), and Ryan Garst; grandchildren, Joshua Gallagher (Matthew), Jordan Gallagher, Kelley Gallagher, Chad Folden (Taissa), Evan Folden (Kristen), Lani Musante (Bryan), Mitchell Maddox (Megan), Ian Kelley, Rayah Kelley, Brittanee Fields, Addison Garst; great-grandchildren, Dakota Folden, Beck Folden, and baby Musante who is expected to arrive in August of 2022; mother of his children, Barbara Bishop Kelley, sister-in-law, Nancy Bishop Terry; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends including Dawn Huff, Kim, Hedrick, Stacey Gunter, Patrick Randolph (Paula), and Kelly Hubbard (John).

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 42 East Main Street, Salem, VA 24153, with Fr. David Compton officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Trauma, and Roanoke Station 4 EMS for their assistance and kindness.
