Obituary for Glenn Dee Harris

Glenn Dee Harris, 85, of Salem, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Born in Greenup, Kentucky on June 28, 1936, to the late William Dee and Martha Arizona Martin Harris, Glenn is also preceded in death by his son, Phillip Dee Harris.

Glenn, born and reared in Kentucky, loved Oldtown and faithfully and enthusiastically attended family reunions for more than 80 years. He loved both playing and listening to Bluegrass music and could make his guitar sing! He greatly enjoying picking and making music with his band, the Star Mountain Boys. Glenn instilled in his children and grandchildren the value of a strong work ethic and was a hard-working, faithful employee of Koppers for nearly 47 years before his retirement. Above all, he adored his family and was a loving father and devoted grandfather.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Darlene Mae Harris, of Salem; daughters, Linda Mech, of Roanoke and Martha (Doug) Morgan, of Salem; step-daughter, Brenda (Hoke) Jones, of Salem; daughter-n-law, Rita Harris, of Shawsville; grandchildren, Natasha (Billy) Daugherty, Jamie (Jennifer) Harris, Phillip (Whitney) Harris, and Douglas Dee (Kathleen) Morgan; great-grandchildren, Emily, William, Addison, Abby, and Shepard; sister, Louise (Bunny) Traylor; special friend, Don Marshall; as well as many friends and extended family.

The family will welcome friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022, from 4-6 PM in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 6PM with Pastor Jesse Bass officiating. Services will conclude graveside at 1 PM on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery, Macks Mountain Road, Indian Valley, Virginia.
