Obituary for Gladys Fay Hodges (Cox)

Gladys Fay (Cox) Hodges, 83, of Salem, VA passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family at Lewis-Gale Medical Center. Gladys was born in Salem, Virginia on Saturday, September 30, 1939, to the late Reva Lovern Cox and Clyde Cox. Gladys was a lover of thrifting (and finding any type of “deal”), gardening, and bingo. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Gladys was a hard worker and retired from Elizabeth Arden in 2001, after over 45 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Shirley White; sister, Betty Lovern; brother, Earl Cox; great-grandson, Mason Kingery.
She is survived by her son, Donnie Hodges (Yvonne); daughter, Karen Kingery; granddaughters, Whitney Artutis (Justin), Ashley Kingery, Amanda Kingery (Nathan Scarbro), and Celeste Hodges (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Trinity, Oaklyn, Miranda, Macy, Tessa, Ellington, and Andrew; brother, Melvin Cox; sisters, Louise Lowry (Thomas), and Linda Hawkins (Larry).
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA, with chaplain Barry Daniel officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the funeral home.
