On Sunday, December 31, 2020, Gerald (Jerry) Philpott, 78, of Salem, Va., died unexpectedly around 5 a.m. and had only complained of a stomachache.
Jerry was the beloved husband of Bonnie Philpott (Mayes) for 52 years; and son of Russell and Selma Philpott.
Jerry was born in Roanoke, Va., and worked at GE as a wireman, usually on the night shift, for 32 years. He loved music and after retiring in 2001 started taking guitar lessons and loved to walk around Salem near his home by the Roanoke River. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem, Va., and was in the Knights of Columbus. He is remembered as always looking at the “Funny side of Life” and a person who rarely complained despite two bouts of cancer.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem. Due to COVID restrictions, the viewing will also be at OLPH beginning at 10 a.m. in the far-right side of the lobby. Burial will follow directly after Mass at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
