Obituary for Gary William Cameron

Gary W. Cameron, 66, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at his home after fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Gary was born on Monday, November 1, 1954 to Jean and Bill Cameron in Watertown, NY. He earned his High School Diploma upon graduating from Carthage Augustinian Academy in 1972, he then attended a local technical school with a concentration on electronics. Gary married Sherry J. Widrick, daughter of the late Edward A. and Beverly A. Widrick in Carthage, NY on November 22, 1980. Gary worked for James River Corporation in Carthage, NY until it’s closure in 1998. In the same year, the Cameron family moved to Roanoke, VA, where Gary began working for R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company until its closing in 2017. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, and spending time with his furry best friend, Mika.

During his time in Carthage, he played on an adult touch football league. He also chose to serve his community as a volunteer fire fighter, he also participated on the Firematics Drill Team. Lastly, but certainly not least, Gary was a fan of the NY Giants Football Team and Syracuse Orange!

As Gary passed, he was greeted in heaven by his youngest son, Andy, who passed away in 2008.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sherry J. Widrick Cameron; son, Ryan Cameron; grandson, Brenton Cameron; brothers, Steve (Karen) Cameron of Carson, VA, and Larry (Tammy) Cameron of Salem, VA; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Fort Lewis Baptist Church, located at 4215 West Main Street, Salem VA 24153, with Rev. Leonard Southern officiating.
