Obituary for Florence "Molly" Evelyn Thompson

Florence “Molly” Evelyn Thompson passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023. She was 93 years old and left behind nothing but love and good memories. Molly was born and raised in England, where she met and married Samuel Lawrence Thompson in 1954. The two moved to his hometown of Salem, Virginia and she became a US citizen. They were happily married until Samuel passed away. Molly was employed at ARC, where she worked with adults with developmental disabilities. She was also an excellent seamstress and did lots of sewing for family and friends. She even fitted and hemmed both of her granddaughters’ wedding dresses and created ties & bow ties to match. Molly was generous with her time and abilities and did a wide range of volunteer work. This included Bethel Baptist Church, Salem Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, and the Bethel Food Pantry. She also enjoyed her Tea Sippers meetings with local British women to keep her British roots strong and, of course, enjoy some good tea. Molly was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nana. Her presence will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, but her memories will be cherished forever. She was preceded in death by her parents David Morgan and Agnes Page Morgan; husband, Samuel Lawrence Thompson; sisters, Doreen Morgan, and Joy Keen; brother, Vick Morgan. She is survived by her brother, Roy, in England, her sons, David Lawrence Thompson and Gerald Bruce Thompson, and wife Judy Thompson, granddaughters Jill Gladwell and Dustin, Kelci Noble and Josiah, great-granddaughter Scout Noble, and great-grandson Owen Gladwell. Owen was born in December, and she was able to meet him before she passed, making for 4 generations of Thompsons.
