Obituary for Edward James Murphy

Edward J. Murphy, 61, of Mason’s Knob Rd. Boones Mill, VA, died on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the Salem VA Veterans hospital following a long illness.

He was born on May 13, 1958, the only son of the late William E. Murphy and Betty A. Robertson Murphy. Following his parents passing in 1971, he then lived with his foster parents, Alan and Vicky MacGreggor in Rushville, NY. He graduated from Marcus Whitman High School in 1976 and enlisted in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life and future wife, Sandra J. LaRoche. Ed worked for Essex Superior in Newmarket, NH for 22 years and resided in Lee, NH from 1979 thru 2016.

In his early life, he enjoyed Oneida Lake and fishing with his father. He also enjoyed NASCAR, building computers, working on cars and building model trains and model cars. He also loved playing Minecraft with both his grandsons.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 ½ years, Sandra J. LaRoche Murphy; their daughters, Victoria M. Murphy of Boones Mill and Samantha M. Murphy Harding and Edward Champagney of Roanoke; two sisters, Janet Murphy Goodman and husband Rodney of Phelps, NY and Joan Brooks of Geneva, NY, and his two grandsons, William and Joseph Harding.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, William Richard and Robert Joseph Murphy, and two sisters, Joyce Frankenfield and Jean Barry.
