Obituary for Edward Amos "Ed" Cord Jr.

Beloved husband and father, Edward Amos Cord, Jr. “Ed”, age 82, passed away on January 29, 2021 at home with his wife and children by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Amos Cord, Sr. and Ruth Graham Cord, and his sister Colleen Cord Mangum.

Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Agee Cord; his daughter, Amy Leigh Cord; his son Edward Amos Cord III, and grandson Emerson Leigh Cord; his niece, Janet R. Mangum, and nephews Robin R. Mangum and Douglas G. Mangum, and sister-in-law Julie Agee Kirby (Ronnie) and family.

Ed attended Virginia Tech (class of 1960), and National Business College. He worked for Exxon/Mobil Corporation for 33 years. Always mindful of service to others, Ed was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club and the American Heart Association. He helped establish the Seminole Trail Volunteer Fire Department in Charlottesville, VA, in 1976. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, VA, where he worked with the Family Promise program supporting local homeless families, and administered communion to veterans at the Virginia Veteran’s Care Center. Ed loved his family and pets, his friends and neighbors (especially his
“porch people” with whom he spent many evenings over the last 10 years), golfing with the Senior Men’s Group at Hidden Valley Country Club and cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies football team.

No services are planned at this time. Memorial donations can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, VA. https://stpaulssalem.dioswva.org. An online guestbook is available for family and friends by visiting www.johnmoakey.com.
