Obituary for Douglas Edward "Doug" Witt

Douglas Edward Witt, 72, of Salem, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2020. He was the son of Lottie Francisco Witt Reynolds and Burney Edward Witt, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles, and one cherished niece, Angie Alexander.
Left behind to celebrate his life and mourn his passing is his wife of 35 years, Herlinda Javier Witt and his beloved children and their spouses: Dana Ellen Robertson (Todd), Cristi Marie Magee (Brannon), Rachel Alisia Witt, Elena Christine Witt, Edward Witt (Veronica) and his sister Bonny J Alexander. Also surviving are his precious grandchildren, Aaron Atkins, Landon Witt, Alexis Witt, Allison Witt and his nephew Jeff Alexander (Christine) and their children, Cody (Loren) and Cayla Alexander and several cousins and friends, along with his little sidekick, mixed terrier, Miracle.
Doug attended New Creation Ministries in Salem, VA. He was manager of WEL, Inc., from Concord, Virginia, a job he truly loved and enjoyed. It was hard work that challenged him, but it came with a lot of gratification. Doug was a veteran of the Army. He served in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. His second tour of duty in the Army was served in Berlin, Germany.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Sherwood Memorial park, in the Veteran’s section of the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name may be made to New Creations Ministries, C/O Building Fund, 202 East 3rd St., Salem VA 24153.
The family would also like to thank the staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care of Doug.
