Obituary for Dorothy Elizabeth Collins Knight

Dorothy Elizabeth Collins Knight, 96, of Salem, Virginia, died peacefully on February 5, 2021 in the Woodhaven Nursing Home, Montvale, Virginia. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 17, 1924 to Maggie L. Wills and Robert Ennis Collins of Roanoke, Virginia. Dorothy was a life-long resident of the Roanoke area and was, for 70 years, a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Salem.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Floyd Yancy (Pat) Knight, Jr., her parents, her brother Clarence Collins, her sister Ada Collins, and her son, Robert Edward Knight.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Linda Knight Wilson, Ph.D. and her husband, Stephen (COL USA Ret.), of Williamsburg, Virginia; her daughter Doris Knight Jusay of Roanoke, Virginia; her daughter Deborah Knight Kirby and her husband, Jerry, of Blue Ridge, Virginia; five grandchildren, Paul Jusay, Phillip Jusay (Leah); Kenneth Kirby (Carolina); Kristal Kirby; and Joshua Knight (Chelsea); and eight great-grandchildren.

During her lifetime, Dorothy was a devout Christian, who served her community through her church activities and charitable contributions to numerous organizations. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, friend and neighbor to all who knew her. She held membership in the Methodist Women; United Daughters of the Confederacy; and most recently in the Peaks of Otter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

A family graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Sherwood Memorial Park, in Salem, where Dorothy will be buried alongside her husband, Pat, and her son, Robert.
